Term 1, 2020
Junior Ride Program for Primary School aged kids starts back on Thursday 6 February 2020.
We’re running things a bit differently this term, with a ride-focussed program designed around having fun on lots of different trails in our region on our Club Family Days as well as helping our juniors get familiar with race tracks being used in Alpine Cycling Club’s junior race series.
The program for Term 1 is:
Week 1 – Thursday 6 Feb – Beechworth MTB Park – A test/ try out of the race courses for those kids interested in trying the Junior MTB Race we’re hosting on Saturday February 8th!
Week 2 – Sunday 16 Feb – Bright MTB Park – Club Family Day* – Riding fun for all members exploring the Bright MTB trails.
Week 3 – Sunday 23 Feb – Yack MTB Park – Club Family Day* – A chance to explore the Yackandandah Trails with friends, and for those interested in racing at the Yackandandah Junior Race on Sunday 29th we can show them/ practice the race course.
Week 4 – Thursday 27 Feb – No JRP (but there’s a junior race at Yackandandah on Sunday 29th)
Week 5 – Thursday 5 March – Beechworth MTB park
Week 6 – Thursday 12 March – Flex day TBC – for rescheduling of other sessions if cancelled for weather, in this case we may have a Club MTB movie night, stay tuned!
Week 7 – Sunday 22 March – Falls Creek MTB Park – Club Family Day* – Explore the Falls Creek Trails with club members of all ages & abilities. This is the day after a Junior Race at Mt Beauty (on March 21st) which gives us an opportunity to camp overnight & enjoy two days of family riding fun!
*Club Family Days will be promoted to all club members. It is expected that with each of these days we will meet at 9.30am to ride from approximately 10am – 12pm, followed by a club-supplied barbeque, and more riding if people want to. Club Coaches & leaders will be available to help guide groups of kids & adults, with trails chosen to suit experience levels.

Times – School terms
Each term begins on the 2nd Thursday of each Victorian school term, running for 6-8 weeks.
We now have an online registration process. Please email email@example.com to check for vacancies in the current program before registering.
Following registration, bikes and gear must be scrutinised for suitability in off-road use.
Essential gear includes:
- Water must be carried in a caged bottle or camelbak
- Full-finger gloves
Once you have registered with Beechworth Chain Gang (BCG), members will need to join Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA) and nominate BCG as their club of choice.
MTBA junior recreation membership starts at $45 p.a.
Additionally, the program cost is $35 to BCG for each term.
Payments to BCG (not MTBA) can be made to:
- Beechworth MTB park – Alma rd.
- Beechworth Police Paddocks – High Street.
- Beechworth Railway station – Railway parade.
- Flame Trees Trails – Diffey Road
Thursday afternoon sessions begin at:
- 4:15pm for all groups
At each venue a BCG Volunteer will control a marshalling area between the car park and the bicycle area, for the duration of the session.
BCG Leaders use the WhatsApp service to communicate with other leaders and members for immediate information.
BCG Leaders will use email, Google Groups, and the Facebook page for more general and non-urgent information.
Please ensure that where possible, members or guardians can access these services
For all enquiries, email firstname.lastname@example.org
Want to help? Please do! BCG needs more parents to assist this expanding group.
Volunteers will need to complete a “working with children” check and be willing to undertake an MTBA training course, which will be organised by BCG.
